2021年7月25日、韓国・京郷新聞は「100年使用した”旭日旗校章”を自ら変えた小学生たち」と題する記事を掲載した。
記事によると、全羅南道（チョルラナムド）海南山（ヘナム）にある山ニ（サンイ）小学校は最近、校章を変更すると発表した。日本統治時代の1927年に開校した同校は、94年間にわたって山頂に昇る赤い朝日模様の校章を使ってきたという。
変更のきっかけとなったのは、6年生の児童が今年5月、講堂に掲げられた校章を見て「日本の旭日旗に似ている」と問題を提起したこと。
